According to the data of the American Iron and Steel Institute, applications for permits for steel imports in July decreased by 13% compared to June, amounted to 2,461,000 tons. It was 2,826,000 tons in June.
The tonnage of allowed imports of finished steel in July was 2,082,000 tons, down 5.5% from 2,204,000 tons in June.
On the other hand, total imports and finished steel imports in the first 7 months of 2022 increased by 91% and 30%, respectively, compared to the same period of 2021, and reached 19,230,000 tons and 15,510,000 tons.
In July, the largest number of applications for steel import permits was submitted by Canada -515,000 tons, followed by Mexico - 440,000 tons, South Korea - 257,000 tons, Brazil - 247,000 tons and Japan -161,000 tons.
