According to the U.S. Department of Commerce's (USDOC) first Census Bureau data, U.S. slab imports amounted to about 292,500 tons in January 2023, an increase of 236% compared to December 2022. Compared to January 2022, it decreased by 37%.
Imports from Brazil increased by 15% y-o-y to about 200,200 tons, Mexico to 32,800 tons, Australia to 31,000 tons and Canada to 23,700 tons.
In this period, the import value increased by 215.4% monthly and decreased by 47.7% annually to approximately USD 178 million.
