US Department of Energy's decision secures Cleveland Cliffs Plant's future

In a pivotal move, the US Department of Energy (DOE) has postponed a crucial ruling, ensuring the continued operation of the Cleveland Cliffs Butler Works plant. This decision, announced by the DOE, allows for adjustments in energy efficiency standards, granting companies extended timelines to utilize the steel produced at the facility.

Governor Josh Shapiro has hailed the decision, emphasizing its significance in preserving the steel production lineage in Western Pennsylvania. Congressman Mike Kelly attributed the reversal directly to the resounding community opposition, highlighting the impact of the Butler community's unified stance against the initial ruling.

Cleveland Cliffs, in a statement, expressed appreciation for the decision, foreseeing an upsurge in demand for their Grain-Oriented Electrical Steel. They anticipate this to potentially pave the way for future investments and expansions.

The reprieve brought about by the DOE's decision is substantial, safeguarding over 1,500 jobs across Butler, Pennsylvania, and Zanesville, Ohio, as confirmed by Cleveland Cliffs.
