According to statistics from the World Steel Association in the first five months of 2022 Ukraine’s steel mills reduced their steel output by 52.8% to around 4.24 million tons year on year. Meanwhile, pig iron production decreased by 53.3% to about 4.15 million tons compared to the same period last year.
Ukraine’s ranks slid to 18th and 12th among global steel and pig iron producers, respectively.
In June, some steel plants in Ukraine, including Zaporizhstal and ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih, resumed work. However, they didn't manufacture all of the metal products. Therefore, some exclusive products by Azovstal and Ilyich Iron and Steel Works will be replaced with imports.
