Two tankers collide near the Strait of Hormuz, large fire erupts

Off the coast of Fujairah, United Arab Emirates (UAE), near the Strait of Hormuz in the Gulf of Oman, a collision between Frontline’s VLCC and Dark Fleet’s Suezmax tanker caused a fire.

Two tankers collide near the Strait of Hormuz, large fire erupts

The incident involved the crude oil carrier Front Eagle (built 2020) with a capacity of 300,000 dwt, owned by Frontline, and the 165,000 dwt tanker Adalynn (built 2002), operated by Dubai-based Oceanpack Ship Management. Frontline confirmed that the Front Eagle, managed by Anglo-Eastern, collided with the Adalynn.

Tanker sources in Singapore reported that Front Eagle is contracted to oil giant Unipec but were not reached for comment. The Ukrainian government, on the other hand, claimed that the Suezmax tanker Adalynn was part of the dark fleet.

Diaplous Group, one of the first to announce the incident, stated on Tuesday that the Antigua & Barbuda-flagged crude oil tanker collided with a Marshall Islands-flagged tanker and a large fire broke out immediately after the collision, possibly fuel, engine room or cargo.

The Antigua & Barbuda flagged tanker suffered serious structural damage and no casualties have been reported so far, the company added.

The UAE National Guard announced that 24 crew members on board the tanker Adalynn were evacuated by search and rescue boats from a point near the Strait of Hormuz to Khor Fakkan Port following a collision in the Gulf of Oman on Tuesday, June 17, 2025.

On Tuesday, the open-source intelligence company OSINT Defender claimed that another Frontline vessel was involved.
