According to data from the Turkish Steel Exporters’ Association (TSEA), Türkiye’s steel exports increased by 23.3% month-on-month in volume terms in June, reaching 2.088 million tonnes. With growth recorded in both export volume and value, the steel industry became the third-largest contributor to Türkiye’s total exports in June.
Strong growth in rebar exports
Among product groups, the most notable increase in June was recorded in construction steel (rebar) exports. Rebar exports surge to 445,572 tonnes from 274,751 tonnes in May, representing a 62.2% increase and accounting for 21.3% of total steel exports.
Exports of hot-rolled flat products declined by 5.1%, falling from 341,740 tonnes to 324,481 tonnes, with a 15.5% share of total exports.
Section exports increased by 26.6% to 187,418 tonnes, representing a 9.0% share of total exports, while coated flat product exports surged by 79.8% to 183,941 tonnes, accounting for 8.8% of total exports.
During the same period, wire rod exports increased by 44.2% to 143,067 tonnes, steel structures exports rose by 14.2% to 100,975 tonnes, alloyed flat product exports climbed by 19% to 86,016 tonnes, and non-alloyed slab exports grew by 37.3% to 69,555 tonnes.
In contrast, welded pipe exports decreased by 1.8% to 168,945 tonnes, while non-alloy billet exports declined by 30.7% to 81,280 tonnes.
Romania remained the leading export market
On a country-by-country basis, Romania continued to be Türkiye’s largest steel export destination in June. Turkish steel exports to Romania increased by 49.8% compared with May, reaching 195,901 tonnes and accounting for 9.4% of total exports.
Italy ranked second with exports rising 4.1% to 135,616 tonnes, while exports to the United Kingdom declined by 31.4% to 108,395 tonnes. As a result, the UK dropped from first place in May to the third-largest export market in June.
In June, steel exports to Yemen increased by 36.4% to 104,311 tonnes, exports to Ukraine rose by 22.1% to 94,014 tonnes, and exports to the United States surged by 298% to 83,115 tonnes.
Meanwhile, exports to Morocco declined by 18.8% to 84,189 tonnes, while shipments to Spain increased by 9.9% to 69,679 tonnes, exports to Mexico rose by 26.4% to 65,181 tonnes, and exports to Bulgaria climbed by 39.2% to 60,870 tonnes.
