Kavlak had been the president of the Turkish Metal Workers Union since April 2009. However, on February 8, 2024, he decided to resign due to health problems.
The union's executive board elected Deputy General President Uysal Altundağ to fill Kavlak's vacant position. Altundağ will now serve as the new General President of the Turkish Metal Workers Union.
