In the first quarter of 2022 Turkey’s steel mills imported iron ore from Ukraine with around 235,000 tons, a year-on-year increase of 51.4%. In March alone, Turkey’s iron ore imports from Ukraine reached approximately 79,000 tons.
Compared to the first quarter of 2021, Turkey’s steel manufacturers' iron ore imports totaled roughly 2.5 million tons, up by 0.4% year on year.
Brazil was the main country that exported iron ore to Turkey, with around 827,000 tons in the first quarter, a year-on-year decrease of nearly 34%.
Brazil accounted for the most proportion of Turkey’s iron ore imports, with approximately 33%, followed by South Africa’s 27% and Ukraine’s 9%.
