thyssenkrupp Steel partners with Smart Steel Technologies for smart production

Germany-based steel giant thyssenkrupp Steel has successfully integrated a smart planning system into its production network at the Duisburg-Bruckhausen plant through its collaboration with Smart Steel Technologies (SST). With this step, the company has boosted efficiency and quality in steel production, giving strong momentum to the industry's digital transformation.

The new software solution can automatically plan and schedule one of the most advanced production networks in the European steel industry. This modern network includes the new Continuous Casting Line No. 4, the fully modernized Hot Strip Mill No. 4, and the plate storage facility. With its automated, intelligent, and fast-responsive scheduling capabilities, the system takes thyssenkrupp Steel’s production planning processes to a new level.

Before being deployed in production, the SST Scheduling System underwent extensive testing and was developed through close collaboration between the teams at thyssenkrupp Steel and Smart Steel Technologies.

Project managers Stefan Kemmer and Christian Lang from thyssenkrupp Steel, along with Dr. Falk-Florian Henrich, Founder and CEO of Smart Steel Technologies, stated “This system is a strong driver for the digital future of the steel industry.” SST will also be responsible for the system’s maintenance and future enhancements, aiming to support the company’s digitalization journey in the long term.
