The USA Energy Information Administration (EIA) announced that commercial crude petroleum inventories in the country decreased by 3 million barrels (0.7 percent) last week to approximately 432 million 600 thousand barrels.
The market expectation was that inventories would decrease by 2 million 37 thousand barrels.
Strategic crude petroleum stocks, which are not included in commercial crude petroleum stocks, remained stable at 621 million 300 thousand barrels.
In the said period, the USA gasoline stocks decreased by 2 million 200 thousand barrels (1 percent) and were recorded as 225 million 900 thousand barrels.
Petroleum production decreased
The USA's crude oil imports decreased by an average of 193 thousand barrels per day compared to the previous week and became approximately 6 million 157 thousand barrels, while its exports decreased by an average of 619 thousand barrels per day to 2 million 812 thousand barrels.
The country's daily crude petroleum production decreased by 5 thousand barrels in the week of 14-20 August and became approximately 11 million 823 thousand barrels.
According to the EIA's August 2021 Short-Term Energy Outlook Report, the average daily crude petroleum production of the USA is expected to be 11 million 100 thousand barrels this year and 11 million 800 thousand barrels next year.
