The UK plans to extend the anti-dumping duty on imports of Chinese-origin wire rod

The UK Trade Remedies Authority (TRA) has recommended extending the anti-dumping measures on imports of Chinese-origin wire rod at the existing duty rates.

The UK plans to extend the anti-dumping duty on imports of Chinese-origin wire rod

The authority stated in its announcement published on 16 June 2026 that, if these measures were removed, dumping practices and the resulting injury to the domestic industry would likely re-emerge.

It recommended maintaining the current tariff rates on wire rod, which is used in the production of construction materials, automotive parts, and general engineering products. Accordingly, it proposed continuing the general import duty of 24% applied to imports from China, and maintaining the 7.9% duty for Valin Group. The TRA also recommended extending these measures for an additional five years.

The anti-dumping measure in question was inherited from the European Union and placed under review by the UK in February 2020. The review concluded that if the measures were removed, Chinese producers would likely resume dumping exports, which would harm domestic UK producers.

In January 2025, the TRA announced that some trade measures would expire in January 2026 unless the industry submitted a request for extension. Following this, a review application for wire rod was filed in October 2025, and the investigation process was initiated in January 2026.
