Steel production capacity in Iran exceeded 40 million tons per year

At the same time, another 7 million tons are expected to be commissioned by the end of this year, according to the local calendar (March 20, 2022).

In addition, Iranian companies can produce up to 36 million tons of reduced iron (DRI / HBI), 66.7 million tons of iron ore pellets and 62.7 million tons of concentrate per year. Total investment in metallurgy and raw materials projects is estimated at $21.5 billion.

According to the government's plans, by 2025/2026 Iran's steel production capacity should reach 55 million tons per year. According to the ministry, this forecast will come true, but the national metallurgical industry faces resource constraints, including production capacity shortages.

According to the ministry, about 12.5 GW of new capacity needs to be installed to supply electricity to the metallurgical industry.
