Stainless steel production increased by 2.5% in the first quarter of 2026

Global stainless steel production increased by 2.5% in the first quarter of 2026, reaching 15.8 million tons.

The World Stainless Association announced stainless steel melt shop production data for the first quarter of 2026. According to the data, global production was recorded at 15.8 million tons, representing a 2.5% increase compared to the same period of 2025.

According to the published figures, the majority of production took place in Asia. The region reached a production volume of 13.4 million tons, recording a 3.3% increase compared to the first quarter of the previous year. Within Asia, the highest production volume was recorded in China, which continued to play a dominant role in total global output.

In the European Union, however, production declined. The region produced 1.5 million tons of stainless steel in the first quarter of 2026, marking a 4.6% decrease compared to the same period of 2025.

In the United States, production reached 0.6 million tons, recording a year-on-year increase of 2.3%.
