SSAB to supply fossil-free steel to Nordec Group

SSAB and Nordec have reached an agreement on the supply of fossil-free steel.

SSAB to supply fossil-free steel to Nordec Group

Sweden-based steel producer SSAB aims to be the first company in the world to offer fossil fuel-free steels to the market in 2026. SSAB Fossil-free steel will be produced using HYBRIT technology and aims to eliminate fossil carbon emissions. SSAB, which aims to use fossil-free steels in the construction sector, will supply Finland-based steel producer Nordec for use in construction projects.

Kalle Luoto, CEO of Nordec Group, said: "As the leading supplier of steel frame structures in the Nordic countries, it is extremely important for Nordec to move forward decisively with investments in fossil-free steel production. The co-operation with SSAB contributes greatly to our green transition strategy and helps us to achieve our emission reduction targets."

The co-operation supports Nordec, which has a target to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 2030, and SSAB, which aims to realise fossil fuel-free steel production by 2026. Nordec also stated that it will use the fossil-free steel it will supply from SSAB in the production of building frames, facades and steel bridges.
