South Korea imposes temporary anti-dumping tariffs on China-origin steel products

The government of South Korea has decided to impose temporary anti-dumping duties on galvanized and color-coated steel sheets originating from China.

South Korea imposes temporary anti-dumping tariffs on China-origin steel products

The Trade Commission under the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy held a meeting on March 16 and issued a preliminary determination that surface-treated cold-rolled zinc and zinc-alloy steel products imported from China were being sold at dumped prices and were causing injury to domestic industry.

The commission recommended that the Ministry of Economy and Finance impose provisional anti-dumping duties ranging from 22.34% to 33.67% on the products concerned while the main investigation continues. The investigation is expected to last up to five months before a final decision is made.

The measures cover galvanized, aluminum, and magnesium-coated steel sheets with a thickness of less than 4.75 mm, as well as painted color-coated steel sheets. The investigation targets three Chinese producers: Baogang, Baoyang, and Winston.

The case was initiated in November last year following a complaint by domestic steel producers Dongkook CM, KG Steel, and SeAH CM. The petition argued that low-priced imported products that do not meet local construction standards were entering the market, harming domestic manufacturers and posing risks to public housing safety.
