SOGAD Calls for Provisional Measures Against Steel Imports from China and South Korea

The Association of Flat Steel Cold Rolled, Galvanized and Pre-painted Producers (SOGAD) is calling for provisional measures for the ongoing anti-dumping investigation launched in December 2024 against cold rolled, galvanized, and pre-painted flat steel products originating from China and South Korea.

SOGAD Calls for Provisional Measures Against Steel Imports from China and South Korea

SOGAD Secretary General Asuman Gürsoy shared important evaluations regarding the investigation, emphasizing that as of 2025, imports of the mentioned products showed remarkable increases. According to Gürsoy, between January and August, imports of pre-painted steel from China alone surged by 43% year-on-year to reach 299,000 tons, while galvanized steel imports rose by 16% to 109,000 tons. The sharpest increase was observed in cold rolled steel, with combined imports from the two countries climbed by 53%, from 290,000 tons to 444,000 tons Overall, imports rose by 31%, reaching 1.1 million tons compared with 848,000 tons a year earlier.

“The current situation places our domestic producers under immense pressure due to unfair competition. That is why we have requested provisional measures from the Ministry of Trade.

Our expectation is an immediate implementation of provisional measures, and the imposition of a deterrent anti-dumping duty, set at rates higher than those currently applied to hot rolled steel. This would play a critical role in preventing dumped imports and restoring market balance.

This step is vital not only for the sustainability of Turkey’s steel industry and the preservation of its global competitiveness, but also for the health of our national economy.

Protecting the efforts of our producers and our country’s production capacity is not just a strategic requirement for the industry, it is an inevitable necessity for Türkiye”
