The second of the Saudi Arabian International Iron and Steel Conference, aiming to become an important player on the global world map, started in Riyadh on 12 September with the participation of regional and global industry leaders and experts.
Organized by the National Iron Industry Committee of the Federation of Saudi Chambers, the event was held under the patronage of Bandar bin Ibrahim Al-Khorayef, Minister of Industry and Mineral Resources, and Khalid Al-Falih, Minister of Investment.
Launched as the largest of its kind in the region, the event was inaugurated by Ministers Al-Khorayef and Al-Falih, and Ajlan bin Abdulaziz Al-Ajlan, President of the Saudi Chambers Federation.
The first day was opened with an exhibition attended by conference sponsors from various leading steel industries representing Saudi Arabia, Gulf countries and international companies. Nayef Falah Mubarak Al-Hajjraf, Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council, delivered a speech.
After the Gulf Cooperation speech, Deputy Minister of Industry and Mineral Resources Osama Al-Zamil; and Khalid Al-Mudaifer, Deputy Minister for Mining Affairs, continued the conversation.
He also held a bilateral dialogue session titled 'The Situation of the Iron and Steel Market in the Middle East and North Africa' with Edwin Basson, managing director of the World Steel Association.
The third session of the second day, 'Game Changers in the Global Iron and Steel Market', was held with the participation of five speakers.
Among these, there were representatives of the World Steel Association, the Indian Iron Federation, Germany-based Baosteel Europe, the General Secretary of the Turkish Iron and Steel Producers Association Veysel Yayan and the senior partners of McKinsey Globalism.
