Russian metal exports: 50 million tons and 50 billion dollars

Rising prices for the world's resources have caused Russia's metal exports to reach a record value of about $51.5 billion in 2021. » Airat Khalikov, General Manager of Gazprombank Center for Economic Forecasting.
According to his estimates, about $ 34 billion was brought to Russian companies through the export of ferrous metals and products from them. Non-ferrous metals accounted for approximately $17.5 billion, with nearly $9 billion from aluminum exports and $4 billion from copper.

In terms of tonnage, Russian companies shipped just over 50 million tons of metal abroad in 2021. The share of ferrous metals and products from them is almost 95%. In addition, Russia sent over 4 million tons of aluminum and over 700 thousand tons of copper to the world market.

In 2021, Russia's metal imports amounted to about 9 million tons, worth about $20 billion, of which about $15 billion was ferrous metals and products made from them. In particular, Russia bought about $1.2 billion worth of stainless steel.

As Airat Khalikov noted, 45.6% of Russian exports and 43.6% of metals imports by value fell to unfriendly countries. China's share of exports is still small - 7.6%, but accounts for more than 26% of Russia's metal imports. Basically, these are ferrous metals and products made from them, including stainless steel.
