According to a statement by Metinvest, the parent company of Zaporizhstal, the ballistic missile attack took place shortly after an air raid alert was issued, while employees were heading to shelters.
The company said that seven members of the Zaporizhstal team were killed and 21 workers were injured in the attack. The injured employees were provided with the necessary medical assistance and support, while communication with the families of those killed and injured is ongoing.
Metinvest emphasized that its facilities in Zaporizhzhia are civilian industrial enterprises employing tens of thousands of people and producing metallurgical and coke-chemical products.
Energy infrastructure, coke and blast furnace facilities damaged
The attack also caused significant damage to the production infrastructure. According to Metinvest, the energy units and infrastructure of the company’s facilities in Zaporizhzhia, as well as the main and auxiliary equipment used in coke and blast furnace production, were damaged.
Following the damage, Zaporizhstal completely halted operations. Other Metinvest production facilities in the region continue to operate at reduced capacity.
Company specialists are assessing the extent of the damage, the possibility of restarting production and a potential timeline for the resumption of operations. Emergency repair work is also continuing at the facilities.
Metinvest thanked the plant teams, rescue services and municipal authorities involved in dealing with the consequences of the attack and providing assistance to the injured.
The company also declared a period of mourning for the employees who lost their lives. Flags at Metinvest facilities will be flown at half-mast today and tomorrow.
