Russia to cut gas to Finland

Finland will become the third country to cut Russian gas after it refuses to pay in rubles for fuel imported from Russia.

According to the announcement made by Finnish gas import company Gasum Oy, natural gas from Russia, which is the main supplier of the region, is expected to be cut off on Saturday morning.

Gas supplies to Poland and Bulgaria were previously cut off for the same reason. It is evaluated that the cut supply amount corresponds to 5 percent of Finland's energy needs, so its impact on the country's economy will be limited.

Unlike many European countries, which use the gas imported from Russia for heating, Finland only uses it in factories.

In the statement made by the Finnish company, “Gazprom Export stated that the gas sent to Finland under the supply contract with Gasum will be stopped on Saturday. Gasum will supply natural gas to its customers through the Balticconnector Pipeline through other sources.
