Roofings Rolling Mills launched new cold mill complex in Uganda

Roofings Rolling Mills Ltd (RRM), a major steel producer in East and Central Africa, has launched its new cold-mill complex in Uganda, achieving high product quality in production. As part of its strategy to expand into the flat products market, the company partnered with Danieli in 2022 to design and supply the integrated facility, which includes a Cold Reversing Mill (CRM), a Hot-Dip Galvanizing Line (HDGL), a Color Coating Line (CCL), and a Coil-to-Coil Trimming Line (CTC).

Danieli stated that it delivered all mechanical, electrical, and automation systems on a turnkey basis. Following the production of the first galvanized coil in October 2025 and the first color-coated coil on November 28, 2025, the facility has now reached full operational capacity as scheduled.

The cold-mill complex, with an annual capacity of around 150,000 tons, feeds the galvanizing line and allows stable rolling of ultra-thin strips down to 0.15 mm. The galvanizing line can process strips between 0.15–0.8 mm in thickness and 600–1,250 mm in width, achieving speeds of up to 160 meters per minute.

The new complex aims to support the growth of Uganda’s steel industry, strengthen the local value chain, and enhance the country’s competitiveness in regional markets.
