Radioactive waste accumulated at the decommissioning Fukushima Dai nuclear power plant in Japan was reported to be "poorly stored".
DAMAGED BY EARTHQUAKE AND TSUNAMI
The decommissioning process of Fukushima Dai-içi, which was damaged in the earthquake and tsunami that occurred in northeastern Japan in March 2011, continues.
IN RADIOACTIVE WASTE OPEN AIR STORAGES
Most of the radioactive waste generated during the reactor decommissioning process is stored in predetermined open-air storages.
"WASTE STORAGE" WARNING TO TEPCO
The Nuclear Regulatory Authority (NRA) warned Tokyo Electric Power (TEPCO), the operator of the nuclear power plant, of "waste storage".
Noting that the volume of waste in temporary areas reached 60,000 cubic meters in July, the NRA noted that this rate has increased more than eight times since January 2020.
Public broadcaster NHK stated that in the 10th year of the disaster, the volume of radioactive waste throughout the facility reached 480 thousand cubic meters by March 2021.
