Production at Tesla's Shanghai factory reaches 3 million threshold

The US-based electric vehicle manufacturer has passed an important milestone at its factory in Shanghai, China. According to the company's statement, this vehicle was rolled off the line as the “Model Y” brand full electric car.

The factory started operations in January 2019, and it took more than 30 months to reach the 1 million vehicle production threshold, but thanks to increased production capacity, the transition between 2 million and 3 million was realized in just 13 months. The Shanghai plant produced its 2 millionth vehicle in September 2023.

In the first 9 months of this year, the number of cars produced by the factory reached 675,000, accounting for more than half of Tesla's global production. Shanghai is Tesla's largest production facility outside the US, and most of the vehicles produced here are exported to Asia Pacific countries and Europe outside China. Around 1 million of the 3 million vehicles produced have been sold in Europe and Asia-Pacific markets.
