Primetals receives EUR 1.8 million research funding from the European Union

The project focuses on hydrogen injection in blast furnaces using Sequence Impulse Process (SIP) technology. The technology aims to significantly reduce carbon emissions in steelmaking processes and is seen as a major step as part of the iron and steel industry's goal to achieve carbon neutrality.

Primetals Technologies will carry out the furnace integration design and economic evaluation, while the project will proceed with the core technology to be designed by Thyssenkrupp AT.PRO tec GmbH. Moreover, the project will be coordinated by VDEh-Betriebsforschungsinstitut and K1-MET GmbH. The project will be tested through simulations in Voestalpine's blast furnace at its plant in Linz, Austria.

Project is considered as an important step towards sustainability and green transformation in steel production and is expected to be completed by 2028.
