Oryx Stainless opens new stainless steel plant in Malaysia

The Dutch Oryx Stainless Group has opened its new flagship plant in Johor, Malaysia. The plant, which is an important pillar of the company's sustainability-oriented global growth strategy, aims to process 150,000 tons of stainless steel per year.

Oryx Stainless' new investment in Johor strengthens the region's position as a strategic industrial hub while reducing environmental impact. The opening ceremony was attended by YAB Menteri Besar Johor Dato' Onn Hafiz Bin Ghazi, ambassadors, senior government officials and Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA) executives.
Hafiz stated: “Oryx Stainless is not only a leader in the green industry, but also a true partner in our sustainable development goals,”.

The plant is not only an economic investment, but also the product of a long-term goal to deliver high-quality stainless steel raw materials with a low carbon footprint to production centers in Asia. Tobias Kämmer, CEO of Oryx Stainless, expressed their pride in contributing to Malaysia's green industrial transformation.

The new plant has the potential to save around 1 million tons of CO₂ per year, avoiding 8.5 tons of carbon emissions for every ton of material recycled. In this respect, it is expected to contribute to the country's goal of reducing carbon intensity by 45% by 2030.

The facility, which also supports local employment, employs mostly local people. By mid-2026, the number of employees is planned to double.

The “smart recycling” system developed by Oryx ensures that recycled raw materials are transformed into new stainless steel without loss of quality. The plant's production process is supported by digital infrastructure and logistics solutions, making it climate-friendly.
