Norwegian Wealth Fund generates $111 billion in first half of 2021

Norwegian Wealth Fund generates $111 billion in first half of 2021

Norway Wealth Fund, one of the world's leading state wealth funds, provided an investment return of 990 billion Norwegian crowns ($ 111.3 billion) in the first half of this year, as the value of share investments in the energy, finance and technology sectors increased in the new type of coronavirus (Kovid-19) epidemic.

In the statement made by the Norwegian Wealth Fund, it was stated that the return on investment of the fund in the first half of the year was 9.4 percent, which corresponds to 990 billion Norwegian crowns ($ 111.3 billion).

In the statement, it was emphasized that the stock market portfolio, which is the main asset class of the fund, yielded approximately 13.7 percent return, and it was stated that the market value of the fund was 11.67 trillion Norwegian crowns ($ 1 trillion 312 billion) as of June 30, 2021.

In the first half of the year, the Norwegian Wealth Fund recorded a 2 percent loss on fixed-income securities investments, while it recorded a 4.6 percent return on unlisted real estate investments.

While the fund announced a loss of 1.9 percent in non-public offering renewable energy infrastructure investments, it provided a return 28 basis points above the return rate determined by the fund as an indicator.

"Technology companies provided 16.8 percent return on investments"

In his assessment on the subject, the Fund's Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Nicolai Tangen, stated that the fund's share investments in energy and technology companies contributed significantly to the fund's income, and reported that an average of 19.5 percent return was obtained from investments made in energy companies.

Stating that they received significant income from their investments in the health and technology sectors in the Kovid-19 crisis and that the increase in these incomes continued in the first half of the year, Tangen said, “Technology companies' investments provided a return of 16.8 percent. Several major tech companies have seen a continued rise in digital advertising.” used the phrase.

Tangen warns that inflation is the biggest threat to yields.

The Norwegian Wealth Fund has been investing in foreign stocks, bonds and real estate markets with the return of the country's oil and natural gas production since 1990. The Norwegian government can use very little of the fund's proceeds, with the remainder being saved for future generations. While the fund has investments in 73 countries and more than 9,123 companies outside of Norway, it holds 1.5 percent of the shares in the world stock markets.
