New sales and outlook in the Turkish scrap market

While cargoes from the Netherlands, the UK, the Baltic, and the US are heading to Türkiye, producers continue negotiations for September and October shipments.

New sales and outlook in the Turkish scrap market

New sales have been reported in the Turkish scrap import market. A Dutch supplier sold a cargo to the Mediterranean region at USD 339/ton CFR Türkiye. The same mill is believed to have purchased 2–3 additional cargoes from Europe and the UK at similar price levels late last week.

On the buyers’ side, a mill in the Marmara region is reportedly still negotiating for a September shipment, while some other producers are expected to book cargoes for October shipments toward the end of this week. However, market sources note that demand volume still lags behind the number of cargoes being offered.

Recent Sales and Price Levels

Key figures from the latest sales into Türkiye are as follows:

  • UK-origin sale: A 20,000-ton cargo to the Aegean region

    • HMS 80:20 → USD 337.5/ton CFR Türkiye

    • Shredded → USD 357.5/ton CFR Türkiye

    • Bonus → USD 357.5/ton CFR Türkiye

  • Baltic to Mediterranean: HMS 80:20 → USD 337/ton CFR Türkiye

  • Europe to Aegean: HMS 80:20 → USD 338/ton CFR Türkiye

  • US to Mediterranean:

    • HMS 80:20 → USD 348/ton CFR Türkiye

    • Shredded → USD 368/ton CFR Türkiye

Market participants emphasize that while further bookings may materialize in the coming days, weak demand continues to limit price momentum.
