NEOM Port reduces transit time on the Egypt-Saudi Arabia-Iraq route by more than 50%

NEOM Port in Saudi Arabia has announced the successful completion of a pilot shipment along a new transport route connecting Egypt, Saudi Arabia, and Iraq. The project, carried out in collaboration with the Logistics Private Sector Engagement Council, achieved a reduction of more than 50% in transit time compared to conventional routes.

The trial shipment began in Cairo, with cargo transported to Safaga Port, then shipped across the Red Sea to NEOM Port. From there, the goods continued by land through northern Saudi Arabia and reached Erbil, Iraq. Spanning over 900 kilometers, the route combines sea and road transport to speed up logistics processes.

The project was carried out with the joint participation of public institutions and private sector representatives. Authorities such as the Transport General Authority and the Zakat, Tax and Customs Authority, along with logistics companies, exporters, and carriers, were involved in the trial.

With this new route, NEOM Port aims to connect various logistics points across the region. Thanks to its location on the Red Sea and proximity to the Iraqi border, the port is positioned to help reduce transit durations.

Infrastructure developments at the port continue in this direction. Remote-controlled cranes and electric loading equipment were introduced in recent months. A new terminal, planned to open in 2026, is expected to accommodate larger cargo vessels.
