Turkish Minister of Treasury and Finance Şimşek announced that the government is taking action against businesses that avoid tax by issuing receipts on products subject to low VAT.

Minister Şimşek's statement on VAT:

In his statement on his social media account, Minister Şimşek explained, "Field inspections will be carried out for companies that are found to abuse the low VAT rates applied to reduce the tax burden on basic necessities." Şimşek's statement included the following statements:

"In order to identify rate incompatibilities in VAT; Our Tax Inspection Board Presidency, Revenue Administration Presidency and Risk Analysis General Directorate have completed their artificial intelligence-supported studies.

Field inspections will be carried out for companies that are found to abuse the low VAT rates applied to reduce the tax burden on basic necessities.

We will continue to pursue those who make unfair gains by causing tax losses and evasion and those who create unfair competition."
