In a written statement, Uraloğlu commented on the export, emphasizing that Türkiye has evolved into a country capable of producing and exporting its own locomotives thanks to its domestic and national railway vehicle vision.
“With the investments we have made, we continue to increase the use of domestically produced railway vehicles across our rail network. At the same time, we are not only meeting our country’s needs but also offering the railway vehicles we develop and manufacture to international markets. It is a great source of pride for us that vehicles built through Turkish engineering and craftsmanship are being preferred abroad. Following our negotiations, I am pleased to announce that the locomotive produced at TÜRASAŞ’s Eskişehir Regional Directorate will be exported to Tanzania in East Africa,” he said.
Highlighting that TÜRASAŞ’s manufacturing success has now reached the African continent, Uraloğlu noted that the company—one of the largest rail vehicle manufacturers in Türkiye and the Middle East—is steadily expanding its international presence. He stated that the first domestically designed and manufactured diesel-electric locomotive, the DE 10000, will serve in Tanzania’s railway fleet.
“This export is a significant indicator of the level our domestic railway industry has reached and the confidence it has gained in international markets,” he added.
Uraloğlu also noted that the locomotive is powered by the “Özgün Motor” (Original Engine), developed through cooperation between TÜRASAŞ and TÜBİTAK under the TÜBİTAK KAMAG Project. The engine, which exceeds 1,000 horsepower, is Türkiye’s first domestically developed diesel engine in this category. Developed with a high level of local content and with all intellectual property rights belonging to Türkiye, the engine will be used for the first time on a domestic locomotive platform destined for export markets.
He further stated that the engineering expertise, knowledge, and design capabilities gained during the engine development process have significantly strengthened Türkiye’s technological competence in power systems. Having reached the commercialization stage, the engine is emerging as a strategic product capable of serving the needs of various sectors, particularly the railway industry.
