Larsen & Toubro announced that it received a “mega” order from JSW Steel

According to the company’s statement, L&T’s Minerals & Metals (M&M) business unit will take part in several existing and new plant expansion projects of JSW Steel, particularly at its Ballari facility in Karnataka and Paradip facility in Odisha. Within this scope, the engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) works for critical process facilities, including blast furnaces and steel melting shops, will be carried out by L&T.

The statement noted that JSW Steel aims to increase its crude steel production capacity as part of its strategic growth roadmap and plans to expand its current capacity from 35 million tons per annum (MTPA) to more than 50 million tons by 2031. In line with this target, the related investment and expansion projects are said to be gaining momentum.

Attention was also drawn to the more than 30-year cooperation between L&T and JSW Steel in the execution of metallurgical projects. It was stated that this long-standing partnership has contributed to strengthening India’s steel production capacity in terms of scale, technology, and operational efficiency.

D.K. Sen, Advisor to the Managing Director for Development Projects and Head of the Minerals & Metals division at L&T, stated that securing one of the largest orders ever received in the metals sector marks an important milestone for the company. Sen noted that the long-term partnership with JSW Steel reflects a commitment to scale, innovation, and national development, adding that the order demonstrates confidence in the company’s engineering and execution capabilities as well as its ability to deliver projects of national importance.
