Kazakhstan wants to mine rare metals in Nigeria

The Kazakh delegation, led by Vice Foreign Minister Alibek Kuantyrov, has completed its visit to Nigeria. Among the issues discussed by the parties were exploration of rare earth deposits, fertilizer supplies and possible cooperation in the oil sector.

Kazakhstan wants to mine rare metals in Nigeria

The Kazakh delegation was in Nigeria for three days, from February 23 to 26. Following the visit, the Ministry of Industry and Trade reported that the delegates met with representatives of the Nigerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the ministries of industry, communications, agriculture, transport, oil resources, and even the current Ooni of Ife (the monarch of the Yoruba people, to whom more than 15% of Nigeria's population belongs).

The Kazakh Ministry of Trade proposed cooperation to the Nigerian side in three areas. The first and most important of them is the mining and metallurgical industry. Namely, the study of deposits of rare and rare earth metals that exist in Nigeria by Kazakh companies. Considering the enormous importance that rare earth metals have acquired recently, this is a very interesting and important prospect for Kazakhstan.

Kazakhstan's commitment to developing cooperation with Nigeria was recently confirmed by Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, who invited Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to visit Astana.
