JSW Steel increased crude steel production by 8% in May

JSW Steel, one of India's leading steelmakers, increased its crude steel production by 8% to 2.273 million tons in May compared to the same period last year.

The company, which produced 2.098 million tons in May 2024, thus continued to grow on the back of strong domestic operations. This increase was achieved despite a planned maintenance shutdown of the blast furnace at the Dolvi plant, demonstrating the company's operational efficiency.

JSW's Indian plants produced 2.194 million tons in May, accounting for 97% of total production. Although the Dolvi blast furnace operated at reduced capacity during May due to scheduled maintenance, it was restarted on May 30 and is expected to return to full capacity by June.

Production at the company's Ohio plant in the US fell slightly y/y to 79 thousand tons in May. Production was 85 thousand tons in the same month last year.

JSW Steel's cumulative crude steel production for the 2025-2026 fiscal year reached 4.756 million tons by the end of May, up 13% from 4.218 million tons in the same period last year.

JSW Steel's current total crude steel production capacity stands at 35.7 million tons per year. Of this, 34.2 million tons is located in India, while an additional 5 million tons of capacity is under commissioning. The company aims to increase its capacity to 43.4 million tons in the next three years to meet growing demand in both domestic and international markets.
