The planned expansion is expected to substantially increase the supply of heavy and ultra-heavy structural steel sections in the country. At a time when infrastructure and energy projects are growing rapidly in scale and technical complexity, this investment is anticipated to reduce reliance on imported structural steel sections and help meet rising domestic demand. The company emphasized that this move will further consolidate its leadership in the structural steel segment.
As part of the investment program, Jindal Steel will establish a completely new, dedicated structural steel rolling mill at the Raigarh plant. The new line will be supported by advanced technology solutions enabling the production of larger and more complex parallel flange profiles. Currently, the plant produces profiles with depths of 100–900 mm and section weights up to 333 kg per meter. After the expansion, it will be capable of producing ultra-heavy profiles up to 1,100 mm in depth and 1,500 kg per meter in weight. This capacity is expected to rank among the highest in India.
The increased production capacity will provide domestic supply support to strategic sectors such as infrastructure investments, refineries, power generation facilities, renewable energy projects, transmission lines, and high-rise construction projects.
