Kurum International is establishing Europe’s first MIDA steel plant in Albania

Kurum International Albania and the Italian steel technology company Danieli Officine Meccaniche SpA have signed an investment agreement for a new facility to be built in the Elbasan Metallurgical Industrial Zone.

The signing ceremony, held in Tirana, was attended by representatives of central and local authorities as well as strategic partners. The project stands out as a significant industrial investment aligned with Albania’s goals of innovation, competitiveness, and sustainable economic development.

The new facility will be based on Danieli’s MIDA Steel Concept technology, a globally leading solution in steel industry technologies. With this investment, the Elbasan plant will become the first steel production facility in Europe operating under the MIDA concept. The project aims to distinguish itself through a low-carbon and environmentally friendly production approach.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, Arif Shkalla, Chief Financial Officer of Kurum International, stated that they have established a strategic partnership for a completely new steel production facility in Elbasan, emphasizing the project’s importance in terms of environmental sustainability. Shkalla also noted that the first-ever implementation of the MIDA concept in Europe offers a production model fully aligned with zero carbon emission targets.
