Japanese Prime Minister Ishiba: no agreement on tariffs reached with the US

Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba announced at a press conference following the G7 Leaders Summit in Canada that disagreements on tariffs continued during his meeting with US President Donald Trump and that no agreement on a "mutually beneficial package deal" was reached.

Japanese Prime Minister Ishiba: no agreement on tariffs reached with the US

Ishiba stated that the tariffs imposed by the US had serious impacts on the Japanese economy, especially on the automotive sector. He added that the talks were constructive, but the deal that Japan has been demanding for a long time has still not been finalized.

“We will continue negotiations in line with our national interests,” the Japanese Prime Minister stated, adding that they will continue their efforts to resolve the current trade disputes with the US.

US President Donald Trump's administration imposed a 24% tariff on Japan and granted a temporary 90-day exemption to some other countries except China. This step increased pressure on Japanese companies, especially in export-oriented sectors.
