Iran’s missile attack on Erbil brings iron and steel production to a standstill

The Iraqi Foreign Ministry announced that Iran had targeted Erbil in northern Iraq with more than 70 missiles and drones and that attacks had also been carried out in different parts of the country.

Iran’s missile attack on Erbil brings iron and steel production to a standstill

According to information obtained by SteelRadar from Haval Steel and Metal Work, an energy plant in Erbil was targeted in the recent attacks. It has been reported that the facility’s shutdown has triggered widespread power outages across the region.

These power disruptions have had a direct impact, particularly on the iron and steel sector. It is stated that, with the exception of a limited number of facilities equipped with generator infrastructure, most factories have been unable to maintain production, leading to a temporary suspension of operations.

Given the energy intensive production structure of the industrial facilities in the region, the interruption in electricity supply is reported to have caused significant disruptions in the production chain. It is assessed that the attack is exerting substantial short term pressure on industrial activities based in Erbil
