According to international reports, Iran produced 14 million tons of steel in the first five months of 2025, including 3.4 million tons in May alone.
Although Iran's total production in the first five months of this year decreased by 5.3% compared to the same period last year, the country experienced a 4.5% increase in May 2025 compared to May 2024.
According to the World Steel Association, 784 million tons of steel were produced globally between January and May 2025, which represents a 1.3% decline compared to the same period in 2024.
In May 2025 alone, global steel production dropped by 3.8% compared to May 2024, reaching 158.8 million tons.
Iran’s five-month production was only 400,000 tons less than Germany, which currently holds the 8th position among the world’s top steel producers.
China, maintaining its position as the world’s largest steel producer, produced 431.6 million tons during the same five-month period—a 1.7% decrease compared to last year.
India, Japan, the United States, Russia, South Korea, and Türkiye hold the 2nd through 6th positions in global steel production.
