According to statistics, India's imports of ferrous scrap amounted 1.08 million tons in November last year, up 14.5% month on month and up nearly 320% y-o-y. This figure reached the highest monthly import volume since January 2007.
The significant increase in imports from September to November last year was due to Indian steelmakers re-entering the cast ferrous scrap import market for the first time in several years.
In the first 11 months of last year, India's ferrous scrap imports amounted to approximately 5.4 million tons, up 66.6 percent year on year. The sharp increase was due to the low base in 2021.
