HyIron, Toyota Tsusho and the Government of Namibia signed MoU for green iron production

According to a statement by Namibia-based HyIron, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed between the Namibian Ministry of Industrialization, Mines and Energy (MIME), Toyota Tsusho Corporation (TTC), and HyIron.

The cooperation aims to contribute to carbon-neutral production goals, advance hydrogen-based direct reduced iron technology, and jointly work on special economic zones and new infrastructure projects. In addition, a joint feasibility study will be carried out to expand green iron production capacity.

The Government of Namibia stated that this collaboration marks an important step toward attracting new investments in Africa’s green iron and green steel production.

About HyIron

HyIron aims to reduce iron ore using only green hydrogen in rotary kilns with its innovative technology. According to company data, this method eliminates around 1.8 tons of CO₂ emissions per ton of iron compared to traditional processes.

HyIron’s Oshivela Green Iron Project in Namibia is planned to be the first large-scale industrial iron production plant operating entirely on green hydrogen. The company highlights that the project will contribute to job creation and the development of industrial infrastructure in Namibia.
