Zimbabwe moves to control its prices by banning chrome ore exports

Zimbabwe Cabinet has decided to change its chrome ore export policy. It was passed from banning the export of unprocessed ore to controlling the export prices of all chrome-related materials. The government has appointed Minerals Marketing Corporation of Zimbabwe (MMCZ) to lead the chromium business.

The Chrome Ore Coordination Committee, composed of representatives of smelters and members of the Chrome Small-Scale Miners Association, will publish the price level for miners every three months.

In July 2021, the government banned the export of unprocessed chrome ore on the grounds of developing local industries.

According to Zimbabwe's Ministry of Mines and Mining Development, the country's mineral reserves are approximately 10 billion tons, accounting for 12% of the world's reserves, second only to South Africa.
