World Steel announces steelChallenge-20 World Champions in Berlin

World Steel Association has announced the winners of the 20th steelChallenge World Championship. The final, held in Berlin on April 13, 2026, determined the world champions in both the industry and student categories.

The World Steel Association steelChallenge-20 World Championship winners have been announced

In the industry category Wang Yang representing HBIS Group in China became the world champion while in the student category Ge Lei (葛磊) from Tangshan Vocational College of Science and Technology took first place

In the competition finalists focused on a case study aimed at optimizing steel production using an electric arc furnace EAF simulation with the SteelUniversity EAF Simulator Over a seven hour competition participants were required to develop and optimize production strategies

The industry category finalists included Wojciech Skuza (ArcelorMittal) from Poland Marviane Souza from Brazil Balahanuman Naradala from the United Arab Emirates Wang Yang from China and Nahyun Kim from South Korea

The student category finalists were Janez Cerkovnik from Slovenia Victor Lima from Brazil Muaz Alhaji from the United Arab Emirates Ge Lei (葛磊) from China and Jeong Hoo Choi from South Korea

Jorge Muract stated that the competition is important for developing next generation talent and combines technical learning with practical application
