"We must take decisive and rapid steps for Canadian steel"

The Canadian Steel Producers Association congratulated the new government to be formed in Canada. In a statement, the association underlined the need to take decisive and rapid steps for Canadian steel and stated that they are ready for cooperation.

"We must take decisive and rapid steps for Canadian steel"

The Canadian Steel Producers Association (CSPA) congratulated Prime Minister Mark Carney and the Liberal Party of Canada on the formation of the new government following the 45th federal elections.

CSPA President and CEO Catherine Cobden stated that they are ready to work with the government for the sustainability of the steel industry and emphasized that the 25% steel tariff imposed by the US on March 12 has negatively affected many sectors.

“Border measures must be increased and CBSA must be resourced to prevent unfairly traded products from entering Canada,” Cobden stated.

The CSPA also called for prioritizing Canadian steel in all publicly funded infrastructure projects, while calling for reform of carbon pricing and greater autonomy for the provinces.

“We must take decisive and swift action for Canadian steel,” Cobden stated, adding that they are ready to work with all parliamentarians on this issue.
