Vietnam increases imports of scrap

Vietnam's scrap imports reached 392,189 metric tons in November, up 25.8% from the previous month, the General Directorate of Vietnam Customs informed.

As for the total import figure for the January-November period, the country's total scrap imports in the first eleven months of the year amounted to 3.87 million metric tons, down 2.2% compared to the corresponding period last year.

Vietnam's top scrap import nations are;

- Japan: 212,438 tons (up 241.4% y/y)

- Australia: 9,265 tons (annual increase 400.2%)

- Hong Kong: 38,874 tons (annual increase 49.3%)

- United States of America: 48,515 tons (annual increase 30.9%)

Highlighting Vietnam's emergence as a major player in the global scrap import market, the country's strategic move to support the steel industry through increased scrap imports underscores its determination to keep up with domestic demand and strengthen its position in the international steel production landscape.
