According to data released by the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI), U.S. domestic crude steel production reached 1.769 million net tons in the week ending August 30, 2025. The capacity utilization rate during this period was 78.1%.
In the same week last year, ending August 30, 2024, production stood at 1.726 million net tons with a capacity utilization rate of 77.7%, marking a 2.5% increase year over year.
Meanwhile, in the previous week ending August 23, 2025, production totaled 1.780 million net tons with a capacity utilization rate of 78.6%, representing a 0.6% decrease from the previous week.
From the start of the year through August 30, 2025, adjusted crude steel production reached 59.469 million net tons, with a capacity utilization rate of 76.7%. Compared to 58.672 million net tons and 76.4% capacity utilization in the same period last year, this represents a 1.4% increase in production.
By region, production during the week was recorded at 127,000 net tons in the Northeast, 545,000 in the Great Lakes, 237,000 in the Midwest, 787,000 in the South, and 73,000 in the West.
