In the week ending September 28, 2024, U.S. crude steel production totaled 1,646,000 net tons, representing a 2.7% decrease from the same period in 2023, when production stood at 1,691,000 net tons. The capability utilization rate for the week was 74.1%, slightly down from 74.4% during the corresponding week in the previous year.
In addition to the yearly decline, the production for the week ending September 28, 2024, also saw a 3.6% drop from the previous week ending September 21, 2024, when production reached 1,707,000 net tons with a capability utilization rate of 76.9%.
YTD production through September 28, 2024, totaled 66,212,000 net tons, with a capability utilization rate of 76.7%. This marks a 1.7% decrease compared to the same period in 2023, when total production was 67,325,000 net tons and the capability utilization rate stood at 76.9%.
