The American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) announced that US steel mills shipped a total of 7,507,349 net tons in May 2025. According to AISI, the figure was an increase of 1% compared to the 7,431,201 net tons shipped in May 2024.
However, shipments decreased by 1% compared to the 7 million 580 thousand 635 net tons shipped in April 2025, the previous month.
Total steel shipments in the first five months of the year reached 37 million 285 thousand 289 net tons, an increase of 1.9% compared to the same period in 2024. In the same period last year, this figure was 36 million 607 thousand 546 net tons.
An analysis of shipments since the beginning of 2025 by product groups shows a 1% increase in cold rolled steel sheet and strip products, a 1% decrease in corrosion resistant steel sheet and strip products and a 2% decrease in hot rolled steel sheet and strip products.
