According to data released by the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI), U.S. steel mill shipments increased by 1.1% year on year in April 2026, reaching 7,664,757 net tons. Shipments totaled 7,580,635 net tons in April 2025.
Compared to the previous month, however, April shipments declined by 6.6% from 8,204,611 net tons recorded in March 2026.
During the first four months of 2026, total steel shipments reached 30,848,701 net tons, representing a 3.6% increase compared to the same period in 2025.
By product category, corrosion-resistant sheet and strip shipments rose by 13% year on year during the January–April period, while hot-rolled sheet and strip shipments increased by 4%. In contrast, cold-rolled sheet and strip shipments declined by 4% over the same period.
