Slovak steel firm US Steel Kosice has restarted to operate its blast furnace no.1, which was suspended from December 2, 2022.
It is recorded that the mill operates two blast furnace at the moment. The mill is generally equipped with three blast furnaces with a total crude steel capacity of 4.5 million tons per year.
At the time of shutdown, the BF-1 was scheduled to return to service in the first quarter of 2023. The suspension of the unit was caused by high energy costs, low market demand and a sharp increase in imports.
Also in early September, US Steel Kosice shut down BF-2 to ensure stable operation of BF-1 and BF-3. According to company representatives, blast furnace No. 2 is idle and maintenance schedules will be adjusted according to steel demand.
