US' slab imports increased in December 2023

According to data retrieved from the US Department of Commerce, US slab imports total amounted to 256,000 tons in December 2023, down 16% from the previous month and up 195% from the same month a year earlier.

Imports from Brazil declined

Although imports from Brazil decreased by 33.4% on a monthly basis, the country holds the largest share with around 163,000 tons. Other major importing countries were Mexico with 57,400 tonnes and Canada with 25,400 tonnes.

Import value increased on a yearly basis

During the period, the value of imports increased by 151% y-o-y to approximately US$142 million, despite a monthly decline of 18.1%.
